As the primary care service for vision in Ontario no referral is needed for most eye examinations. Some patients like diabetics are referred by their primary care doctor or nurse for a more thorough dilated examination. Other optometrists may also refer patients for additional testing like pachymetry, visual field testing, corneal topography or OCT.
Corrective lenses through glasses or contact lenses are the most common form of vision correction, but there are other options available to patients. Laser vision correction and specialty orthokeratology are major examples.
